Part 4: Game of Desire (Big 5, Mind Patterns)

tldr; this one's about the big 5 personality test and your mind pattern

get caught up with parts 1 through 3 first!

The Game of Desire is this incredible book written by Shan Boodram, and it's full of tips and tricks and things to be mindful of when it comes time for you to want to settle down and have a long-term, committed relationship as an adult. I could talk about the mind-blowing advice on each page, but you'll just have to trust me and buy the book to figure that out for yourself. (Or do the online workbook!)

Here's today's agenda:

  1. love languages

  2. attachment styles

  3. the kinsey scale

  4. apology languages

  5. ideal relationship structure

  6. 👉🏻 the big 5 personality test,

  7. 👉🏻 your mind pattern,

  8. what your jungian personality type is,

  9. your turn-on triggers,

  10. and what your orgasm recipe is

The Big Five Personality Test

Studies have shown that there are generally five major personality characteristics that everyone falls under (can remember them as "OCEAN"): openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. The example from Shan's book says some pairings can have different meanings like, "people low in conscientiousness and high in openness are more likely to cheat on their significant other" which makes sense if you think about it! It's all about where you rank, high or low, on the scale for each question. You can take the quiz yourself here, though I think it's a little different from in the book! (Trying to avoid copyright lmao)

My answers are:

  1. Openness 96%

  2. Agreeableness 81%

  3. Neuroticism 75%

  4. Conscientiousness 67%

  5. Extraversion 67%

This basically boils down to the following: I'm mostly extroverted, I'm very open, I'm very conscientious, I'm agreeable most of the time, and I'm emotionally unstable/neurotic (HAHA). I'll break down what I think each of the terms mean in my life:

  • Openness/Agreeableness I give everyone else benefit of the doubt and the space to be imperfect, but I don't really leave a lot of room like that for myself.

  • Extraversion/Conscientiousness I think this is accurate because I'm such a warm person, my humour, my vulnerability, my intelligence, and my honesty and organization.

  • Neuroticism This one is the funniest to me because I have anxiety about everything in some way, but it's extremely heightened when it comes to relationships (mostly romantic ones).

Your Mind Pattern

Take this test here! This is what it says before you take it:

"Your brain is your most valuable tool — you use it every day to solve problems, make decisions, and navigate our complex world. But how well do you really know your own brain? This free, fun quiz will teach you a lot about your brain; it'll tell you which of 16 reasoning styles you use, where your strengths lie, and what you can do to improve your skills. It will also tell you what your overall level of rationality is."

My result is Free Spirit. This is what the quiz told me about that:

"Free Spirits like to seek out new experiences; they prefer to enjoy these experience on an emotional level without poring over or analyzing them. They tend to enjoy the more colourful and artistic parts of everyday life." Basically, it's saying that I'm intuitive, carefree, subjective, and open. I try to be really open to everything, and this might have something to do with the fact that when I set really high expectations for something I'm often left disappointed because I over-think and like... fantasize about things and life almost never works out that way.

If you're too lazy to take the quizzes, you can probably just guess what yours are by knowing what the options are, but it can't hurt and is not a long quiz at all! If/when you do it, let me know on instagram: @parrell.ly :)
